Acoustic Guitar Magazine Launches “Guitar Pro”

The September issue of Acoustice Guitar Magazine will launch a new monthly section called “Guitar Pro,” according to a press release apparently submitted by the magazine to Harmony Central.

The release explains that Guitar Pro will provide “practical advice on recording, performing, teaching, and building a career for professionals who use the guitar as their main tool in making music and earning a living.”

I intend to check out the new section, even though I do not fit within its target audience criteria.

It wouldn’t be the first time I took such liberties. I signed up for Apple’s ProCare program even though I had never - and still have not - actually generated any money from my various Mac-related graphical media endeavors, present blog included. Circumstances and a day-job have forced me to proudly cling to my amateur status. With ProCare, I could (in theory) cut the line at the in-store Genius Bar, reserve weekly personal training sessions for any of Apple’s software, and obtain computer maintenance services and tune-ups.

Based on the appeal of the personal training (which I always thought was too good to be true for only $99/year), Apple has split the program. Now, if you want one-on-one training, you must enlist in the aptly-named “One-to-One” program for an additional $99. I think it is still worth the money even if you only take advantage of a handful of training sessions. (I quickly got 4 sessions under the belt and have since squandered the opportunity each week. Lucky for me, I am grand-fathered into the earlier ProCare membership, so I still have a few months to set up training.)

I am confident that that Acoustic Guitar will resist the urge to start charging a premium for their new section. But you never know. So it’s a good time to get in on the ground floor.
