Wireless Fender

video games, guitars, reviews

The official Wireless Fender Guitar Controller for the Xbox 360 game “Rock Band” (a hopeful competitor to the Guitar Hero series) is now available for perusal and pre-order.

Both the game and the controller are slated for “pre-release shipment” in late November, 2007.

While opting for virtual musicianship is not as dramatic as entirely losing connection with the outdoors, (even playing an actual guitar is an indoor activity), it seems a wasted opportunity. The time and effort to progress from level to level in the virtual world on a pseudo-instrument could be used to nurture a life-long hobby and passion, and perhaps even a career, on a real guitar.

Don’t misunderstand: Video games are highly entertaining. But I would never spend a Saturday morning trying to shoot armor-piercing, exploding arrows into General Raam, leader of the post-apocalyptic underworld, if I had an actual cross-bow and quiver of exploding arrows. I would be outside piercing armor and restoring civilization.

Hmm, the point may have gotten away from me there. All I’m saying is: instead of trying to make it to the next level, try making music.
